Ahmedabad: The Income Tax (I-T) department will closely monitor places like airports, railway stations, bus depots and courier companies, to curb the flow of illicit cash during the 2017 state assembly elections.
"A special team will monitory these crucial places from where money is moved during elections. The air intelligence unit will double its manpower to monitor the flow of money at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. Rhe railway stations at Surat and Vadodara will also be closely monitored," officials said. Movements of courier companies, angadia units and hawala operators will also be monitored. The I-T department has made a list of high-risk districts, high-risk zones and high-risk constituencies where unaccounted money can be used to influence voters. The department has also set up a control-room number, 18002331313, on which people can give inputs about the black money used for election purposes.
