Lack of airport in Warangal a hurdle

Hyderabad: The inauguration of the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park in Warangal by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is set for October 22, but the development of an airport in the vicitniy of the park, which will greatly boost business, is still in the works.
The Textile Park at Shayampet and Chintapally villages of Warangal Rural district, is 200 km from Hyderabad.
Officials fear lack of airport connectivity will be a hindrance to attracting investments. According to Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC), 330 units with an investment of `11,000 crore are expected to come up in the park.
Investors are upset because the Telangana government has not made any progress in its efforts to make the Warangal airport, located at Mamnoor, nine km from Warangal city, operational for the past one year. The main stumbling block for the coming up of the airport is a rule incorporated in the agreement with GMR during the development of the International airport at Shamshabad in 2005 which forbids the coming up of another greenfield airport in the 150 km radius of the existing airport at Hyderabad.
