One year on, airport project in Purandar fails to take off

Pune: In October 2016, the state government had announced that the new Pune airport will come up in Purandar taluka.
One year on, the groundwork for the prestigious project is yet to start. The reasons for the delay: Absence of a clearance and problems in land acquisition.
Talking to TOI, sources in the Maharashtra Airport Development Company Limited (MADC) said that while the long-pending clearance from the defence authorities could take another month, the compensation announcement for the landowners too couldn't be made right now.
This comes a day after chief minister Devendra Fadnavis formally announced that Singapore's Changi Airport will assist in the Pune airport project.
"It will be wrong to say that nothing has been done since the project was announced. Some work has been done, and more is in progress. However, the actual groundwork is yet to start as we need a clearance from the defence ministry. However, we are expecting an answer from the defence ministry in the next three to four weeks," a MADC official said.
