P&W supplies over 20 spare engines to IndiGo, GoAir

New Delhi: Pratt & Whitney has provided more than 20 spare engines for A320 neo aircraft operated by IndiGo as well as GoAir. None of the aforementioned airlines’ planes are presently grounded, aviation industry sources said.

With the two airlines facing problems with the P&W engines that power their A320 neo planes, aviation regulator DGCA had asked the US company to expedite the supply of engines.

IndiGo, which is the country’s largest airline in terms of market share, has 24 neo aircraft while rival GoAir operates eight such planes. Sources said Pratt & Whitney (P&W) had recently supplied more than 20 spare engines to IndiGo.

Four spare engines were provided to GoAir in September, they added. Earlier, IndiGo and GoAir had to ground some of their neo planes due to engine issues.

Currently, none of the A320 neo aircraft operated by IndiGo are grounded, the sources said. At one point of time, the no-frills carrier had grounded eight of these planes, which also had an impact on its flight operations. There were no immediate comments from IndiGo and P&W.

When asked about its A320 neo planes, a GoAir spokesperson said, “no aircraft is grounded”. Following engine issues, the airline had grounded around 3-4 of these aircraft.
