Gold seized at airport

Coimbatore: Customs officials at Coimbatore International Airport have seized five bars of gold, weighing 583.2 gm and valued at Rs. 17.93 lakh, from a passenger who arrived at the airport from Sharjah on Saturday morning.

According to a press release, the passenger, Muhammed Salih, a native of Malappuram and aged 27, had concealed the gold in rectum. Based on suspicion, the customs officials questioned the passenger. Investigations are on. However, he was not arrested as the value of gold is less than Rs. 20 lakh. The passenger had reportedly told the officials that he had gone to Sharjah in search of job.
