Lohegaon airport officials happy with four conveyor belts

Pune: The Lohegaon airport authorities have reiterated that there are no plans to add more conveyor belts in the facility in spite of passengers having to wait for long to collect their luggage.
Such a view has not impressed passengers as the number of travellers has spiked in September compared to the previous months, a survey of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) showed.

"The construction of the new terminal building will start soon and it will have sufficient conveyor belts," an airport official said. Figures provided by AAI show that domestic and international passenger traffic has increased at the airport but limited facilities have intensified the problems plaguing travellers.
In September, 23,243 international passengers travelled to the airport compared to 19,926 travellers in the same month last year. In the case of domestic flyers, the airport witnessed 6,51,608 travellers. At present, there are four conveyor belts in the arrival area and two at the departure lounge.
"The airport needs more conveyor belts. If the authorities are not thinking along these lines, it is not a good sign.It is frustrating for passengers to wait for their luggage after a flight. If the present terminal building is being expanded with all the facilities as is being claimed by authorities, this is the basic need upon which the latter needs to work on," Dhairyashil Vandekar, an aviation analyst, said.
