Man held with over USD 12,000 currency at Kolkata airport

Kolkata: A Dhaka-bound Indian man has been apprehended at the airport here for allegedly trying to smuggle over USD 12,000 currency by concealing it in a mobile power bank and a charger, the CISF said today.
On-duty Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel last night intercepted a passenger identified as Sarfar Mohammad, 35, at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (NSCBI), officials said.
During the x-ray scanning of the baggage of the man, the CISF official detected suspicious images of a mobile charger, power bank and a calculator and hence he was chosen for detailed frisking.
“A total of USD 12,100 currency hidden in the said mobile accessories and calculator was recovered from the baggage of the passenger. The man has been handed over to the Customs authorities for further investigation,” CISF spokesperson Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Hemendra Singh said at its headquarter in Delhi.
