Resurfaced runway needs repairs again within 1 year

Ahmedabad: Attention flyers— brace up for yet another spell of inconvenience as just a year after it was resurfaced, the runway of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) airport will undergo resurfacing again in two phases from February 15 to 28 and from March 1 to April 15.
According to Airport Authority of India (AAI) officials, no flight operations will be affected in the first phase as the resurfacing will be done in portions. But in the second phase, the runway will remain shut for flight operations between 10am to 7pm for around 45 days. This effectively means that around 35-odd flights operating between this time slot will be scheduled either early morning or later in the night.
AAI has asked the contractor, who had earlier done the resurfacing work in October last year, to finish the resurfacing again on defect liability. The resurfacing was to be completed by March 31 this year, but it was completed six months ahead of time, in October, 2016. In July this year, heavy rains drilled potholes on the runway thrice after the rains.
