Shirdi airport to get 3 new flights in January

Pune:  A month since the Shirdi Airport became operational, Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) officials said that night landing facility, extension of runway and extension of apron area will be completed within four months.
Senior officials said that with three new flights to different destinations from the airport expected to start from January next year, the total number of flight movements will increase to 10.
"At present, two flights operate from the airport. The number of flights is expected to increase from January. We are expecting connection to Shirdi from three places —Bhopal, Hyderabad and Delhi --- by January. We are positive that the flights will give a further boost to the airport," Suresh Kakani, vice-chairman-cum-managing director of MADC told TOI.
Another senior official said that phase II of the project, which involves construction of a new terminal building, will be started soon. "In four to five months, tenders regarding the same will be floated and we are targeting to complete the work of the building within two years. The new building is expected to have aerobridges as well and we will be considering international flight operations from the airport. However, before the building is completed, we aim to get necessary infrastructure ready for international operations. Work on the same has started and will be completed by March next year," C.S Gupta, executive director (technical), MADC told TOI.
