Too short for jumbos, Amausi runway to be extended soon

Lucknow: To make it suitable for aircraft of all sizes, Lucknow airport's runway would be extended. At 2.7km, it is not large enough for big aircraft, like Dreamliners and jumbos. The district administration has identified 69 acres of land for the same and the runway would be expanded to 3.5km, which is the standard size for all aircraft.
As of now, Chaudhary Charan Singh airport authorities approve only mid-size aircraft with 300 passenger capacity. Airports Authority of India (AAI) has decided to stretch the runway and taxiway of airport, making it suitable for large aircraft, with the capacity of 500+ passengers. The expansion will make landing easily. District magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma said the land will be acquired in the next few days. The price to be paid for it would be twice the present DM circle rate. The cost evaluated is around Rs 550 crore.
