Airport authorities drive away rogue auto drivers

Mumbai: A couple who flew down to Mumbai recently was fleeced by an errant auto driver at T2 International Airport as they were charged Rs 1,000 for a journey to Dahisar which should have cost them not more than Rs 300. With similar cases coming to light, MIAL authorities cracked the whip last week and drove away all rogue drivers from T2 terminal premises.
MIAL has made separate pickup and drop stands for the three-wheelers with security ensuring that there are no errant drivers who "solicit" directly with customers. "They are not even allowed to park autos anywhere near airport premises," an official said. It has also come up with helplines and email addresses where citizens can air their grievances or lodge complaints against unscrupulous auto drivers.
Said an official, "We found out that the T2 pick ups were controlled by a group of auto drivers. These drivers would not allow autos from other parts of Mumbai to pick up passengers. This was uncalled for. MIAL, with the help of Sahar police and traffic police, is working towards bringing in discipline and processes in place, bifurcated the pick up and drops zone to accommodate lining up of the autos that all autos get a fair chance and no passenger is denied."
