Expert writes to MoD on runway delay

Pune: City-based aviation expert Dhairyashil Vandekar has written to the defence ministry, requesting it to look into the delay in extending the runway at Pune airport.
"I've learnt that the issue is now pending with the Indian Air Force (IAF). Hence, I have written a letter to defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman and civil aviation minister Jayant Sinha regarding this. It has been 13 years since the idea of extending the runway was conceptualized," Vandekar said.
In June, Sinha had visited Pune and held discussions on the different aspects of the Pune airport with AAI officials and Pune MP and Airport Advisory Committee chairman Anil Shirole. When contacted, an airport official said: "The IAF has been requested to expedite the matter. We are waiting for some information from them."
An IAF source declined to comment. Shirole and collector Sourabh Rao could not be reached for comment.
