Good News! Air Asia likely to set up base in Guwahati airport

Guwahati: What may come as a good news for travelers from Guwahati to other South East Asian countries and vice versa, Air Asia, one of the biggest airlines is keen to make LGBI airport in Guwahati as it’s base of operations.

Assam government on Tuesday last said the chief executive officer of AirAsia, Amar Abrol expressed his desire for the same to chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal during a road show in Bangalore.

This could be a boost to Assam government ahead of the Global Investors’ Summit being organised in Guwahati on February 3 and 4.

Sonowal on Tuesday addressed nearly 300 business leaders in Bangalore and invited them for the summit. He also appealed all to invest in Assam.

During the road show, Sonowal highlighted the initiatives taken by his government to promote investments and underscored such as ease of doing business, single window clearance system, skilled work force and the state’s natural resources.

“The government is putting maximum emphasis to revive the growth and investment cycle. Because of the steps taken so far, the state government has succeeded to bring Rs 6,500 crore investment in the first one year in office,” an official statement said.

Sonowal also held one-to-one Government to Business (G2B) discussion with the industry leaders from Biocon, TAFE India, AirAsia, TTK Prestige Ltd, Toyota Kirloskar, Bharat Electronics Ltd, Deccan Charters Private Ltd, OLA Cabs (ANI Technology) Ltd and some others.
