New terminal at Hubballi airport inaugurated

Hubballi: A long-standing demand of the North Karnataka region to have an upgraded airport to accommodate more large aircraft became a reality on Tuesday with the inauguration of a new terminal building of the Hubballi airport.
To mark the occasion, a new flight to Mumbai from Bengaluru via Hubballi was also flagged off at Hubballi airport, which operates thrice a week from Tuesday.
Speaking after dedicating the new terminal building at the Hubballi airport premises, Union civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju, said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi is giving a thrust to develop aviation, to enable the common man to travel by air. We have demonstrated to the world that India is the third-fastest growing domestic aviation market in the last 3-4 years."
On the demand to make the new flight to Mumbai a daily flight, the minister said, "It's people who should make it economically viable to travel by air. Once it becomes viable, then, you can have flights in the morning, afternoon, evening and night. So, come buy ticket not only for Air India, but also other private aircraft. Make aviation economically viable, by ensuring that private aviation companies compete with one another, by cutting the prices of tickets, thus helping aviation activities."
He said in the first and second phase of the UDAN scheme, have been planned for 88 airports. "Aviation has a bright future if we all work together to keep taxation in limits, because those states which brought down taxation within reasonable parameters, have seen a boost in aviation activity," he said.
