Two flyers caught with 6 lakh gold items, foreign currency worth 3.50 lakh

Chennai: Customs officials at Chennai airport detected two cases of smuggling - one of gold and another of foreign currency - on Thursday.
Early on Thursday, passenger Ramdas Swamy, 72 , an Indian passport holder, who arrived from Singapore by an Air India express flight, was intercepted at the exit of arrival hall on suspicion that he might be carrying gold or contraband items .
When he was searched, four gold chains weighing 209g and one gold ring of 12g, all of 22 karat purity, worth 6 lakh, were recovered.
The gold chains and ring, wrapped with polythene covers and concealed inside his pants' pocket, were seized under Customs Act, 1962.
