27 helipads in U’khand to be developed under regional connectivity scheme

Dehradun: Twenty-seven helipads in Uttarakhand including prominent ones in places like Pithoragarh, Almora, Srinagar, Gauchar and Lansdowne have been selected by the Centre for the Udan— Regional Connectivity Scheme which aims to make flying affordable for the common man. Disclosing this at an event held for inaugurating the logo and administrative building of the state animal husbandry department in Mothrowala in Dehradun on Friday, CM Trivendra Rawat said that the Union government will soon provide “step-wise assistance under the regional connectivity scheme to develop the helipads.” He added that a final nod has also been received from the ministry of civil aviation for the Dehradun-Pantnagar flight service which will commence in February.
TOI had earlier reported that Air Deccan, India's first domestic low cost airline, is expected to charge Rs 1,600 per seat for its flight from Dehradun to Pantnagar. Officials had said that it will be a 35-minute flight, covering a 261-km distance that takes seven hours by road,
Under RCS, airfares are capped at Rs 2,500 per hour of flight. Airlines selected as part of the scheme have to offer low fares for 50 per cent of their total aircraft seats in return of which they receive a subsidy or viability gap funding (VGF) from the Centre and the state government concerned.
