Chennai: Customs officials at Chennai airport seized $9,700 from a passenger on Saturday night.
Customs officials intercepted Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Khader, 42, who holds an Indian passport, after he had cleared immigration. Khader, a resident of Chennai, was going to Singapore.
Customs officials suspected that he might be carrying foreign currencies or contrabands.
The officials found US$9,700 inside the inner zipper of his hand baggage. The foreign currencies equivalent to Rs 6.1 lakh was seized under the provisions of the Customs Act 1962.
