Dense fog disrupts air traffic at Pantnagar airport for fourth consecutive day

Rudrapur: For the fourth day on Sunday, dense fog cover disrupted air traffic from the only airport of Kumaon in Pantnagar. Due to very poor visibility, the only flight from Delhi to this airport couldn't land on Sunday said Director of Pantnagar airport S K Singh.
He added that there are very less chances of resuming air traffic in the next few days because of very dense fog, as predicted by the meteorological department, due to which the visibility is feared to remain poor. Several passengers had to return from the airport after cancellation of the flight. The flying course run by Amber Aviation at the airport has also been suspended due to low visibility. Pantnagar recorded a minimum temperature of 5 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
Air India operates four Delhi-Pantnagar-Delhi flights in a week at Pantnagar airport on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Singh said that dense fog conditions during the week have led to suspension of flight operations.
While speaking to TOI, Singh said, "The visibility at the airport has reduced to 500 metres this week, while a minimum of 2,100 metres of visibility is required for the aircraft to land or take off. Last year too, 15 flights were cancelled owing to bad weather conditions." On Sunday 31 tickets booked in the Delhi-Pantnagar flight were cancelled while on Saturday 22 tickets booked from Delhi to Pantnagar and 29 from Pantnagar to Delhi were cancelled.
