Flight en route to Birmingham declares mid-air emergency

The Air India flight AI113 from Delhi to Birmingham gave off emergency "squawks" earlier this evening, although it is not clear why.

The aircraft was scheduled to land at 5.10pm but was briefly diverted past the airport due to an unknown situation on-board.

The emergency "squawk" code is a 7700 – something described as "an emergency from the pilot's perspective".

The flight landed safely after 7pm.

Daily Star Online has attempted to contact Air India for comment.
