Flying Rickshaws to be a Reality in India Soon

Jamshedpur: Flying rickshaws will soon be a reality as the government is exploring the possibility of ‘air rickshaws’ based on drone technology for easy travel, said Minister of state (MoS) for civil aviation Jayant Sinha on Tuesday. However, the minister did not give a time frame by which air rickshaws could be launched in the country.

“Air rickshaw based on drone technology can be the best transportation service in the country and the ministry is drafting regulations in this regard,” MoS Jayant Sinha, as reported by Hindustan Times, said. Sinha was addressing corporate giants at City Data for India Conclave 2018.

The minister pointed out that survey revealed that the cost of travelling by air was almost same as the cost of travelling by auto rickshaws and explained why rates of air ticket are higher than other transportation services.

“To cover one kilometre distance by an auto, city residents pay only around Rs 4. This was nearly the same amount one pays to travel one kilometre by air, the flight ticket amount is high as several thousand kilometres are being covered during one journey,” Sinha added.

Emphasising on air service through drones, the minister said countries like the UAE and Germany are using this technology which is effective for mapping, security, survey of mineral sites, product delivery and defence as well.
