Guwahati: Three more passengers were caught at Guwahati and Jorhat airports on Friday for allegedly smuggling in gold biscuits concealed in their body cavities.
An official source said the presence of metal was detected in Ankush Soni's rectum during a security check at LGBI Airport here. He was scheduled to travel to Delhi on an IndiGo flight.
"When a thorough body search was conducted, Soni was found carrying six gold biscuits weighing 990 grams. The value of the seized gold will be around Rs 30 lakh," the source said. "The accused, who hails from Rajasthan, was handed over to customs officials along with the gold biscuits," he said.
CISF jawans also detained two passengers at Jorhat airport for allegedly smuggling 14 pieces of gold biscuits, weighing 2.2kg and valued at Rs 60 lakh, in their bodies during security check. Pawan Kumar and Surender Singh were about to board a Delhi-bound Jet Airways flight, when they were caught by the CISF personnel. "They were handed over to customs officials," the source said.
