PUNE: The chairman of the Airports Authority of India, Guruprasad Mohapatra, claimed on Friday the Indian Air Force (IAF) had cleared the new Pune international airport project at Purandar.
On the sidelines of the Airports Authority of India (AAI)'s western region meeting in the city, top officials told TOI that AAI received the information just two days back. Soon a team would inspect the site. "With the IAF agreeing, one can expect the project to move ahead when it comes to the land acquisition process and other works," Mohapatra said.
Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had announced the new Pune airport, named after Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje, at Purandar, around 45km from Pune, in late 2016. The project has not moved forward with the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) Limited, the developer of the airport, awaiting a nod from the ministry of defence.
