Karipur Airport awards Rs 6 crore works for RESA extension

Kozhikode: The Karipur Airport authorities have awarded the Rs Six crore works for extension of the Runway End Safety Area (RESA) of the airport.
The RESA would be extended by rearrangement of runway lighting. Following the works, the runway length would be reduced from 2850 metre to 2700 metre.
A senior AAI official said that the works which would commence on January 15 have been awarded to five firms.
The airport is expanding its RESA to enable the operation of mid- range wide- bodied aircraft like Boeing 777-200.
The airport had earlier announced partial closure of the runway to facilitate the works from January 15 to June 30. The runway will be closed from 12 noon to 2.30 pm and 3.30 pm to 7 pm from January 15 to March 24. Again, for second phase works, the runway will remain closed from 12 noon to 8 pm from March 25 to June 30.
