Mohali: The customs department seized 1.059 kg of gold ornaments from a passenger coming from Dubai at Chandigarh International Airport on Friday.
Sources at the airport said the worth of gold ornaments was around Rs 30.71 lakh.
According to sources in the customs department, Vinay Kumar, who was travelling on a Dubai flight of IndiGo Airlines, was caught with gold ornaments at the airport. They added that the passenger claimed to be an exporter based in Dubai and was into exporting goods to Punjab.
When searched, the passenger was found carrying a gold chain (700g), a bangle (233g), a biscuit (116g) and a coin (10g) which he had not declared to the customs department.
