Pune: A 35-year-old software engineer snuck into the Lohegaon airport using a forged ticket and was promptly arrested.
Subhadeep Dasgupta, who wanted to say goodbye to his girlfriend, who was to fly to Kolkata on Sunday, used a copy of her ticket, forged his name on it and used it to enter the terminal. However, he was caught by Central Industry Security Force (CISF) personnel when he tried to leave the airport through a departures gate.
He was handed over to the airport police. A CRPF official lodged an FIR and Dasgupta was arrested under IPC sections 419 (punishment for cheating by personation), 465 (punishment for forgery), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine forged document).
"Dasgupta scanned the ticket and used a computer to change his girlfriend's name to his," inspector Vilas Sonde said on Monday. "He then used the ticket to sneak in and went up to the counter to see her off."
Dasgupta then tried to exit through the departures gate, where he was intercepted by suspicious CISF personnel. "He was taken into custody and handed over to the police after they checked with the airline and found (the ticket) was fake," Sonde said.
The Lohegaon civil enclave is part of the Indian Air Force's strategically vital airbase. However, the CISF rejected the notion that it was a security lapse on their part. "The CISF caught the person when he was exiting the airport," an officer said.
