58-year-old Chinese woman dies at airport

An Emirates flight from Dubai to Hong Kong was diverted to Mumbai on Sunday afternoon due to a medical emergency involving a 58-year-old Chinese woman. The passenger, however, was declared dead on landing at the city airport.

Official sources said flight EK380 was diverted to Mumbai after the airline crew noticed an “unresponsive passenger on board” and alerted the authorities at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport.
The flight, which took off from Dubai in the morning, had crossed Ahmedabad and was entering Maharashtra airspace when it was diverted towards Mumbai around 3:37 pm.

Ateam from the medical emergency team at the airport, which was on standby since 3:39 pm, reported at Bay V20 to attend to the patient as soon as the flight touched the ground at 4:05 pm.

“However, the passenger was unresponsive and was soon declared dead. Further investigation is on,” a spokesperson from the Mumbai International Airport Ltd said.

The Sahar police, who were called in at 4:30 pm, conducted a panchnama following the death of the passenger.
