GoAir appoints ex-Spirit Airlines exec Jyri Strandman as COO

Low fare carrier GoAir has apppinted Jyri Strandman, formerly with low fare US carrier Spirit Airlines, as its chief operating officer.

Strandman will report to managing director Jeh Wadia and be a part of the airline's core management team, the airline said in a statement.

Strandman will be responsible for strengthening GoAir's operational functions of flight operations, engineering, airports security and airside operations; flight safety, inflight safty and integrated operations control centre.

Strandman has over 30 years of experience in the aviation industry. Prior to GoAir, he was associated with Spirit Airlines as director, operations and vice president flight operations.

At Spirit, he was instrumental in introducing over 70 Airbus A320 family aircraft including the Neos (new engine options) into the airline fleet.

Prior to Spirit, Strandman worked with various airlines in management and training capacities including Virgin America and American Eagle Airlines.
