New Delhi: Indians who have booked tours to Maldives, where emergency was imposed Monday, are not cancelling their holiday in the island nation. Airlines like SpiceJet, Air India and SriLankan, which fly to Male, say their flights are operating. However, many Indian vacationers — who are yet to make bookings — have started looking at options to Maldives.
Daniel D'souza, SOTC's head of sales, said: "Maldives conventionally is one of the most visited countries by Indian travellers.... Owing to the present situation, we haven't observed a change in bookings and in travel plans as yet with customers. However, alternate destinations such as Phuket, Srilanka, Bali, Cambodia and Philippines (Cebu) are being explored by travelers."
Rajeev Kale, Thomas Cook's president and country head (leisure travel), said: "Maldives continues to feature as a favourite holiday destination. While we have received neither cancellations nor requests for rescheduling, our tour operations team is in close contact with our on-ground partners/suppliers and we are closely monitoring the situation. As per information available with us, the latest update is that it is business as usual in the Maldives. Our customers' safety and security is of utmost priority for us and we will continue with our on-going checks to closely monitor the situation on-ground."
