Raw deal for Kozhikode in State Budget

Kozhikode: Kozhikode has no big reasons to cheer about in the Budget presented by Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac in the State Assembly on Friday.

No specific allotments have been made for projects for which demands have been raised by the public for a long time such as the acquisition of land for widening the 8.5-km Mananchira–Vellimadukunnu road and for the expansion of the Calicut International Airport.

The Budget mentions that land acquisition for airports will be completed in 2018-19 and their expenditure will be met from the outlay for major infrastructure development projects. However, Calicut airport has been left out. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has been asking the State government to acquire 100 acres of land for the expansion of the runway of the airport.
