Valuables stolen at Karipur airport

Malappuram:  Passengers on Air India Express flight from Dubai landed at Calicut International Airport at 7.20 am on Tuesday were stunned to find their valuables stolen. The incident led to protest and later spilt out into the streets after videos of the passengers complaining went viral on Facebook.  Around ten bags were unlocked with sharp devices, and gold ornaments, smartphones, electronic devices, money and an expensive watch were missing.

A passenger alleged he lost his passport kept in hand baggage. The airport customs and airline authorities have no clue on the theft which is frequent at the airport. A senior Air India official said that an investigation was on. "Our security department and all the concerned people have been informed. They are looking into the matter. We have also informed our counterparts in Dubai airport," he said.
"We cannot say where the theft took place. It could be either Dubai or here. But the chances of theft here are remote. Calicut is a small airport, and all the areas are under the surveillance of CCTV cameras and our security officials." The Air India has also taken up the issue with Dubai Police and Dubai Airport authorities.
