Air Costa’s order for 50 aircraft still in our books: Embraer

Hyderabad: Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer has no immediate plans to cancel the order for 50 aircraft placed by the now-defunct airline Air Costa.

“The Air Costa order is in our books. There is no time for that (cancelling the order). The airline can still ask for their aircraft if it is able to recover from the situation. There is no time for that unless something happens. There is nothing we can do, we just have to follow the situation. We are in touch with them they are trying to recover the situation,” Cesar Souto Pereira, Vice-President, Asia-Pacific Embraer Commercial Aviation, said.

Vijayawada-based airline Air Costa had suspended operations in early 2017 after running into financial troubles.

Meanwhile, Embraer has signed a pact with Star Air, a new start-up airline, and will supply the first of the two confirmed orders for ERJ 145 aircraft to the carrier in the next few months. The 50-seater aircraft which Star Air will acquire is an used one and not brand new. The airline also has the option of taking two more Embraer ERJ 145 aircraft and will need to decide on whether it wants to take these additional aircraft or surrender the order so that they can be given to another operator globally, officials said.

The aircraft manufacturer is also in talks with other airlines for supplying its products, officials said without getting into details. “We are having conversations and it depends on how the conversation goes,” said Pereira when asked whether the company will announce any orders at the on-going Hyderabad air show.
