Fire in Mizoram's Lengpui ATC tower

New Delhi: The air traffic control tower at Lengpui Airport, Aizawl, caught fire on Monday. The fire in the ATC tower - Mizoram's most important airport - was reportedly due to an electric short circuit. "Flight movement is normal. Luckily the costly equipment did not get damaged," a senior official of Airports Authority of India said.
Another official said the ATC functions were restored soon after the fire. "Some tables got burnt in the fire. It was not a major fire. The ATC services were provided by the designated alternate ATC unit which is temporarily created," the official said.
The airport infrastructure has been provided by the Mizoram government and is maintained by the state. AAI only provides air navigation services, in terms of ATC personnel and equipment, there.
