New direct flights to take off for three cities from mid-April

Pune: Four new direct flights will connect Pune with Kolkata, Patna and Delhi from April.
Travellers to Kolkata, who recently suffered a jolt after Vistara withdrew its direct flight from Pune to the eastern city, can now rejoice. Two direct flights will connect Pune with Kolkata.
“While Air Asia will operate a flight to Kolkata from April 11, a Jet Airways direct flight will connect Pune with Patna from March 25. SpiceJet will start another direct flight from Pune to New Delhi on the same day. Apart from the above three, IndiGo is likely to operate a new flight from Pune to Kolkata from April 20,” Pune airport director Ajay Kumar said on Tuesday.
There are around 182 flight movements at Pune airport at present. “The increase in number of flights is always a good thing for any airport as it helps increase growth besides providing passengers with more options. Though there were some direct flights between Pune and Kolkata, one had been discontinued recently. Number of passengers travelling between Pune and Kolkata is always high and two new flights will make matters easy. The same holds true for the direct flight to Patna,” an official told TOI.
