No clearance for Aviation Academy at Begumpet

Hyderabad: The government of Telangana has been unable to set up an Aviation Training Academy at Begumpet Airport as it has  not been granted clearance by the Central government.

The state government signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Aerocampus Aquitaine and Bordeaux Metropole, a French company, on March 20, 2016, for the establishment of a training centre to train professionals in the field of aviation and aerospace and generate a skilled workforce for maintenance, repair and overhaul. At the time, the Central government had given its approval, in principle, and the state government had claimed that it would be the first training academy of its kind.
According to the MOU, the academy has to start functioning within 6 months and it must train 1,000 students per year. However, the government of Telangana is having trouble getting clearances and approvals from the Airport Authority of India and the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation.

Government officials have made several attempts to get the required clearances, but the Central government has shown no interest in the project for the past two years.
