Vibrant Gujarat Summits: Aviation MoUs fail to take off

A large number of Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) related to the civil aviation sector, signed at Vibrant Gujarat Summits, have failed to take-off, information provided by the state government in the state assembly on Monday, shows.

The civil aviation minister said in a written reply in the House that 15 MoUs related to civil aviation were signed at the 2011 Vibrant Gujarat Summit and 12 at the 2013 Summit. The investment proposed in the MoUs signed in 2011 was Rs14,117 crore, and Rs1,098 crore in 2013.

"Of the 15 MoUs signed in 2011, eleven are in preliminary stages of implementation, and four have been cancelled. Out of the 12 MoUs from 2013, seven are in preliminary stages, and five have been cancelled," the minister said.

In a written reply to another question, the minister said that 10 MoUs related to civil aviation sector were signed in 2015 with proposed investment o Rs5,426 crore. In the last edition of Vibrant Gujarat Summit, i.e. in 2017, 12 MoUs were signed, but the investment figures were not taken into consideration.

Out of the 10 MoUs signed in 2015, eight are in preliminary stages of implementation and two are cancelled. From 2017, one MoU is under implementation, and 11 others are in preliminary stages, the minister added.
