AirAsia India (I5, Chennai) has announced it will open its third Indian base at Kolkata Int'l on May 11, 2018, launching four new routes and basing one A320 out of the airport.
According to the ch-aviation capacity module, the Indian unit of the LCC group will launch services out of Kolkata Int'l to each of Guwahati, Imphal, Pune, and Vishakhapatnam after the opening of the base. Each of the routes will be operated on a daily basis.
Currently, AirAsia India bases its seventeen Airbus A320 Family aircraft out of Bangalore Int'l and Delhi Int'l. The unit placed in Kolkata will be the airline's eighteenth jet.
The carrier currently serves Kolkata, the main gateway to India's north-east, from Bagdogra, Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Delhi, Nagpur and Ranchi.
According to the ch-aviation capacity module, the largest operator at Kolkata is currently another LCC, IndiGo Airlines.
