Gold concealed in powder form in Complan bottles seized at Calicut International Airport

Chennai: The mode of smuggling gold into the country apparently undergoes mutation once the old methods gets detected. For instance, 715 grams of 25 carat purity gold was segregated from 10 bottles of Complan carried by a passenger from Dubai at Calicut international Airport.
The Commissioner of Customs, Sumit Kumar said that based on a tip-off of possible smuggling of gold through Calicut Airport, Air Customs kept vigil on passengers coming from abroad.
Following this one passenger who landed from Dubai by an IndiGo flight was found carrying ten bottles of Complan. Further investigation revealed that gold was concealed in powder form in the complan bottles.
With the help of a goldsmith gold weighing 715 grams of 25 carat purity was segregated. The market value which is Rs.21,97,195.
A case was registered against the passenger identified as Shamseer Kalathil, 32. He was arrested and released on bail. Further investigations are on.
