Gold worth Rs 2.60 cr seized from Jet Airways Dubai-Mumbai flight

Customs officials have initiated an investigation in connection with gold bars which were recovered from a Jet Airways flight at Mumbai Airport on Tuesday night.

The investigative agencies have sought help from the airline to track down the person who allegedly tried to smuggle gold bars worth over Rs 2.60 crore.

According to officials, gold bars were hidden in between the seats of a Dubai-Mumbai flight.

"A routine post-flight cabin inspection of Jet Airways flight 9W 579 Dubai-Mumbai on April 24, 2018, led to the recovery of certain contraband items. Our security team immediately informed the local authorities who took the items in their custody," said Jet Airways.

The investigative agency has prepared a list of all the passengers and cabin crew who travelled from Dubai to Mumbai in Jet Airways flight 9W 579.

Soon, all of them will be questioned by the officials.

According to the customs officials, gold worth Rs 2.60 crore was recovered at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA), Mumbai on Tuesday by the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Mumbai Customs.
