Include Rewa airbase in Udan scheme

Bhopal: Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Rajendra Shukla today met Union Civil Aviation Minister Shri Suresh Prabhu in New Delhi. Shukla requested Prabhu to include the development work of Rewa Airbase in the third phase of the Bidding of RCS Udan scheme. He also requested to develop it as an unreserved low-cost airport. This work is to be done by Airports Authority of India.

Industry Minister informed the Union Minister Prabhu that Rewa region is developing at a great pace due to industrial development and large canal irrigation works. Also the possibility of establishment of agro-based industries has increased significantly. Apart from this, the famous Maharaja Martand Singh White Tiger Safari in Mukundpur near Rewa has increased the potential of wildlife tourism.

Shukla told Prabhu that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan wrote a letter to the then Civil Aviation Minister on January 13, 2015, and to Principal Secretary of Civil Aviation Department on May 26, 2015 and had requested for a pre-feasibility survey for the development of the Rewa airbase by the Airports Authority of India

In October 2015, survey was done in Rewa and a report was prepared by the authority team. Madhya Pradesh Principal Secretary Aviation Department wrote to the Airport Authority of India on March 17, 2016, that the intention of the Madhya Pradesh government was the development of the Rewa airbase by the Authority.
