Indian deal takes wing with CDB

An Indian budget airline has leased five aircraft from an Irish company connected with China’s national development bank.

CDB Aviation Lease Finance said that it had signed an agreement with Spicejet for the long-term lease of five Boeing 737s.

CDB Aviation is an Irish-based subsidiary of China Development Bank Financial Leasing, which in turn is backed by the China Development Bank. The bank is one of the largest lenders in the world, with thousands of employees and estimated assets of €1.4 trillion. It is best known for its financing of large infrastructure projects.

Spicejet is India’s third-largest domestic carrier based on passenger numbers. It operates more than 400 mostly domestic flights daily.

Aircraft leasing has become an increasingly large sector in Ireland.
