Meghalaya: Air Deccan conducts test flight from Umroi Airport; to commence regular operations from May 1

Shillong: The low cost carrier Air Deccan today conducted its test flights from the Shillong Airport at Umroi today even as it will begin its commercial operations under the Regional Air Connectivity Scheme or Ude Desh Ke Aam Nagrik (UDAN) from May 1.

It may be mentioned that The ‘Ude Desh Ke Aam Nagarik’ (Udan) is a regional air connectivity scheme with the objective to make flying affordable for the masses, to promote tourism, increase employment and promote balanced regional growth. It also intends to put life into un-served and under-served airports

The first flight from Kolkata today which is a 19-seater aircraft landed at the Shillong airport with officials of the company which was given a water salute at the airport.

The officials of Deccan Airlines commended the infrastructures of the Umroi Airport.

Meanwhile, a senior official of the AAI said the firm has started the operations in  6 out of  12  routes and the remaining routes will be operational in a couple of days.

He also said that the firm would operate from Shillong six day in a week.

Besides Shillong, Air Deccan also conducted test flights from Agartala and Dimapur today. The commercial operations from the airport at Agartala and Dimapur will also begin from May 1.
