Thiruvananthapuram airport targets five million passenger flow

Thiruvananthapuram: The Thiruvananthapuram international airport is gearing up to achieve the five million mark in passenger movement during 2018-19. The airport had registered a 14% increase in traffic during 2017-18 compared to 2016-17.

The airport handled about 44 lakh passengers in 2017-18 compared to 38 lakh passengers the previous financial year.

Domestic traffic has increased at the rate of 22% with 19 lakh passengers moving through the airport in the last fiscal.

The increase in international passengers is at the rate of 8% with the airport handling 25 lakh passengers last financial year. Of the travellers handled by the airport, 56% fall in the international passengers’ category and 44% are domestic passengers.
Airport Director George G. Tharakan said the airport was poised to cross the five million mark during 2018-19 with the present pace in the growth of passenger movement in domestic sector.

The growth of domestic passengers was 35% in 2016-17 and the 44% growth in 2017-18 shows the increasing patronage with better connectivity offered from the State capital.

The Airports Authority of India that owns and manages the airport is gearing up to cater to the needs of the flyers and 18 operating airlines.

Five self check-in kiosks have been set up in the domestic terminal for hassle-free check-in. In the international terminal, two self check-in kiosks have been provided.
