Zimbabwean woman caught with methamphetamine worth Rs 15 crore at Delhi airport

New Delhi: Who would have thought that a woman dressed in a casual pink shirt and sporting a bold hairstyle at the Indira Gandhi International Airport could be a drug supplier.

A 38-year-old woman from Zimbabwe was on Monday evening caught with 3 kg methamphetamine, which is worth Rs 15 crore in the international market.

She is currently in custody of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). The officials of NCB in Delhi Zone received a tip-off that a Zimbabwean woman will reach IGI airport carrying a consignment of drugs.

The information specifically mentioned that the woman would be boarding IndiGo Airlines flight number 6E505 and would be departing for Goa on Monday at about 8.30 pm.

Accordingly, a trap was laid and a team of more than seven persons reached Terminal 1D of IGI airport. When she reached the airport, the officials double checked her as a suspect before confronting her.

They also intercepted her for checking. She was taken to the departure hall of Terminal-1D. Her flight tickets mentioned the same flight number as mentioned in the secret information.
She was carrying two bags that were thoroughly checked by the NCB team. During checking, a whitecoloured crystalline powdery substance, believed to be methamphetamine, was found packed in black plastic polythene and concealed in both sides of her trolley suitcase, said Madho Singh, zonal director, NCB.

During preliminary questioning, she disclosed that she arrived in India on March 20 when her flight landed at the Mumbai airport from Zimbabwe.

She also disclosed that the contraband was handed over to one Nigerian national in Manila, Philippines. She had visited India previously in November last year.
