Anti-hijack drill at airport

Guwahati: An anti-hijack mock exercise was conducted at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport here on Saturday morning to check preparedness and enhance efficiency of a contingency plan to deal with any hijack situation, a source in the Airports Authority of India said.

Air force helicopters participated in the drill.

The exercise was conducted under the chairmanship of secretary to state home and political department Kanak Chandra Sarma with airport director B.K. Tailong as the convener.

Personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), air force, different airlines, air traffic control and communication of the airport, state police and intelligence agencies participated in the mock exercise. Anti-hijacking mock drills are conducted at every airport in the country annually as mandated by the National Civil Aviation Security Programme. The drill aimed to familiarise with standard operating procedures to be adopted by stakeholders during an hijack.
