Gold worth Rs 28 lakh seized from passenger at Chennai airport

Chennai:  Customs officials at Chennai international airport seized gold worth Rs 28 lakh from a passenger who arrived from Riyadh via Sharjah in an Air Arabia on Friday morning.
Officials intercepted Jaffar Hussain Shaik of Cudappah, 40, at the exit of the arrival hall and searched his baggage.
The examination of his checked in baggage resulted in the recovery of a decorative flower showpiece with a glass base, which was found to be unusually heavy. On dismantling the showpiece, six 10-tola bars, two 5-tola bars of 24 K purity and one rectangular gold ingot weighing 110 gram of 18 K purity , totally weighing 925 grams and valued Rs 28 lakh, were recovered.
