India's IndiGo boosts int'l plans, nears wide-body order

IndiGo Airlines is set to triple its number of international destinations from the current eight to 24 in the coming eighteen months, including six long-haul services to various points in Europe, The Economic Times has reported citing a source familiar with the developments.

According to the report, the new destinations will include a total of ten regional airports on top of the eight already served, as well as six in Europe. The latter would include cities in France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Belgium, and Switzerland, although no specific airports have been named just yet.

"The plans for international expansion are firmed up and the airline may order wide-body aircraft at the Farnborough Air Show to be held in July,” the newspaper's source has said.

It is recalled that, in March, Bloomberg reported that the carrier's most likely choice for the wide-body jet would be the Airbus A330neo.
