Jet Airways Asked To Pay Compensation To Two Bangalore Passengers For Error In Ticketing, Lost Baggage

Jet Airways was pulled up by a Bengaluru Consumer Court for overcharging a passenger for an economic class ticket and for losing another passenger’s bag. Both the passengers were offered compensation.

Koramangala resident Bhairav Shanth was a frequent flyer with Jet Airways. He holds a privilege card for the air miles accumulated. His good rapport with the airline ended on October 6, 2015, reported The Times of India.

He booked a flight from Dubai to Mumbai and Mumbai to Colombo on October 2015. He also booked another flight for a friend from Delhi to Dubai. He was shocked when he was given economic class seats in place of premiere seats as he booked the tickets for over Rs 85,000 each.

He claims that he tried having several conversations with the airline manager but in vain. Even though the airline acknowledged their mistake, no action was taken. Tired of this, he finally lodged a complaint with Bangalore Urban II Additional District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum on March 9, 2016. He sent screenshots of the conversation and emails to prove his point.

The counsel for Jet Airways argued that the screenshots were misleading and said that Bhairav Shanth indeed did not book premier class tickets. However, he failed to establish why Shanth was charged 20% extra for an economic class ticket then. On April 11, the court ordered Jet Airways to refund the passenger the excess fare collected and also pay Rs 10,000 towards court expenses.
