Dum Dum: A new prepaid booth for meter taxis opened outside the airport terminal this month, enabling arriving passengers to book rides even after they step out.
The booking counter is opposite gates 4A and 4B of the arrival level, around 15 metres ahead of the one that is used as a despatch point. This is where passengers are required to deposit their booking slips.
The older prepaid booking counters are all inside the terminal, closest to Gate 3C. Until the new one opened, any passenger stepping out without booking a meter taxi inside either needed to go for an app cab, take a Volvo bus or maybe bargain with the driver of a private car dropping off someone.
Nobody is allowed to walk back inside the building by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel posted at the gates.
