AAI invites tender for work on Trichy airport terminal expansion

Trichy: The construction work of the proposed new terminal building at Trichy airport is set to commence soon as the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has invited an e-tender in this regard at an estimated cost of Rs 621 crore, airport authorities said.
The AAI has invited e-tenders from empanelled contractors for upgradation of the passenger terminal building and airside facilities at the international airport. Besides the new terminal building, the facilities include an elevated road besides associated electromechanical airport system, IT works including comprehensive maintenance and operation under package I.
AAI has fixed July 26 as the last date for submission of the bid document. According to airport authorities, construction of apron, associated taxiways and isolation bay will be included in package II at an estimated value of Rs 44.36 crore. The present proposal for construction of the new integrated terminal building is expected to help ease the congestion during peak hours, particularly in the immigration area. With equal distribution of flights, the new terminal building will be able to cater to the passenger traffic much beyond 2026, officials said.
