Amritsar: The Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport in Amritsar has been able to reduce its losses significantly, thanks to increased international traffic. The Amritsar airport caters to three states — Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal.
From a loss of Rs 43 crore reported in 2015-16, it has recorded Rs 13-crore loss in the fiscal ending March this year. It had incurred a loss of Rs 39 crore in 2016-17. The loss declined by over 66% on year-over-year (YoY) basis.
Riding on the steady increase in passenger traffic and new international and domestic connectivity, the airport increased its revenue from Rs 82 crore in 2015-16 to Rs 103 crore in 2016-17 and Rs 148 crore in 2017-18.
Accordingly, expenditure of the airport also increased over the years. It was Rs 125 crore in 2015-16, Rs 142 crore in 2016-17 and Rs 161 crore in 2017-18.
The number of passengers travelling through the airport increased from 10.79 lakh in 2014-15 to 12.29 lakh in 2015-16 and then from 15.56 lakh in 2016-17 to 23.09 lakh in 2017-18.
Airport Director Manoj Chansoriya said the losses also included depreciation.
